I buy the device for Car 1. After 6 months it's due for change. I buy a new Car 2 and sell Car 1. I'd like to keep the device and use it in Car 2. Is this possible? Would the data get mixed up? The fuel may change.

You can use it for car 2. I did it before. I moved from accord to Prius before.

Srikanth is correct! If you purchase a new car, you can certainly move the adapter from your old car to the new vehicle. You will just need to run through the setup process on the new vehicle (as explained in this related FAQ). Also make sure that your new car is compatible with Automatic before running through setup.

For more information on using Automatic with multiple vehicles, be sure to check out this FAQ.
