My car's alternator failed with no sign of trouble from Automatic. Is this a problem that the adapter should have picked up?

Hi Al. A failed alternator would not generally trigger a "Check Engine" light, and Automatic only reports information related to the CEL. This means that other dashboard notifications such as maintenance lights, tire pressure, air bags, oil pressure lights, and alternator lights won't be reported by the app.
