Thanks to everyone who has signed up for our Android Beta Test Program! We’re getting very close to our beta release and are on track to have it ready in time for Christmas. If you're in the Beta, please keep an eye on the Google Group for updates. When the release is ready, we'll post it there.

Please keep in mind that while we're hoping to support all Android phones "ice cream sandwich" (4.0) and above, we can't guarantee that it will work on every phone. We're doing internal testing now and knocking out issues as they arrive but there's no way we can test on every possible Android. We'll post any known issues on the Google Group when we release the app. If it doesn't work with your phone initially, hang tight because we'll be working diligently to address issues.

Also, if you haven't yet, please check your car's compatibility on our Car Support page.

If you didn’t get a chance to sign up for our Beta Program, not to worry. We’ll accept more Beta signups after the holidays, most likely around the second week of January. You can currently request to join and we’ll approve requests in the new year. If you have a pre-order with us, let our Customer Success team know you’re in the Beta Program once you’re approved by emailing support@automatic.com and they'll ship out your order.

Waiting for the 1.0 release? Our plan is to have the Android app ready for a full release in early 2014. Keep an eye out here in our community and on our blog for more news on the Android app after the Beta Program has gotten underway. All non-Beta pre-orders placed on our site for Android will ship when the 1.0 app is ready. As always, we never charge until we’re ready to ship your device.

Finally, here's another sneak peek of the app:

Are you in the beta? Do you have the Automatic Link already? And what kind of phone do you have? (make & model)

Both of those phones are looking good in testing. We're working hard to have the beta app ready for you all by some time Christmas Eve. So, it *might* make it in time for your road trip there. If not, then your road trip back! :)

Jest is fine. Just include a winky face or something & I won't take it personally. ;)

Is there an ETA? Like to know. If it's going to be within the next few hours I'll put off my trip but if not then I'll just head off without it. :-(

Hi gellenburg. I'm sorry I missed your question the other day. We did release it on Christmas Eve in the late afternoon Pacific Time.

I received the notice with the link to download the new Beta App but the link loaded up Play Store and got a message "Item Not Found" [RETRY]
I have been going back and forth with tech support on what could be the problem. I have done the following without success.
I have verified my e-mail with the support staff that it is the one that should be active on both Automatics system as well as my Play Store account.
I have logged off of both browsers on my Android (I also have Google's Chrome)
Reset my device by powering it down.
Rebooted
Signed on again on my browsers
Still "Item Not Found" [RETRY]"
Then I did it all again and verified that the Play Store had my proper email account and it already did.
Repeated all the above steps again and all I got was "Item Not Found" [RETRY]
Did it all again after logging off of Google on my laptop too but still got "Item Not Found" [RETRY]

I've got the exact same problem as Bob. I follow the link from the Google Groups page and get "Item Not Found".
I pre-ordered over the summer and was approved for the Beta.
Can't wait to get started!

Ah. Of course. :) As I just told John below, we're doing a fresh compatibility audit of phones that are currently in the beta test and working out some of the kinks that the first wave of testers have encountered before opening the flood gates again. Do you already have your Link?

I have a link working in my Honda Ridgeline through my Samsung Galaxie S4. When I first got it linked up I was not seeing any warnings for acceleration, heavy braking or speeding. Though I don't do much speeding. Now I see all three. I guess I got an update and was unaware of it. In any case the map of the trip shows the location of the infraction for speeding over 70 but it does not show the location on the map for hard braking or hard acceleration. Is this a glitch or is it intended not to show these two warnings by location? I also don't hear any beeps or audible warnings when these things are happening. Are the beeps supposed to come from the Link or from your phone? If so I may be the problem with shutting down the volume on my phone.

One other thing... how soon do you see the crash notifications coming online. This is the main reason I purchased the Automatic in the first place.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob. Glad you got it up & running. Yes, currently only speeding is shown on the route map. The other infractions are coming.

The alerts *are* working and come from the Link itself. So if you're not hearing those, that's not expected unless you'd turned them off in your settings however I don't think you're able to turn them off in the Android app yet. Do you hear beeps when you go over 70?

I'll see what I can find out about the timing on Crash Alert.

Thanks for testing!

Hi Kenneth - Welcome! So sorry for the delay in responding. I was flat out with the flu last week. I've been playing catch-up ever since! :)

The best way to talk with us privately is to send an email to support@automatic.com. If you wanted to talk to me specifically you can ask for me in the email and it will get assigned to me.

I got my link a couple of days ago from Amazon. How long before I can get accepted into the beta program or when will the general release be available? I have a Samsung Galaxy S3.

Thanks,
Sean

So all these posts are at least 20 days old. Any update on the Android version of Automatic? I signed up to buy on Dec-17 for my brother (For Christmas) and haven't heard anything since. Customer Service FAIL.

I had high hopes when I first read about the Automatic, so I got in over the summer and waited 6+ months for the Android version.

I am not pleased with my initial experience.

There is so much potential for this device. But the software is not there yet... and by the looks of things it will be a while before it gets to the point that I was promised.

If you are on the fence, I suggest you wait.

And for us waiting... I hope this gets better fast! I'd hate for this thing to fail.

Since I have not heard anything yet, I have decided to return my Automatic to Amazon and instead get the OBDLink LX and use the Dash app for Android. Saved myself $30 in the process too.

We're almost there! For those waiting on being approved for the beta group, we have some good news for you. The latest app release has been testing out very well and we're ready to bring a larger number of people onboard. We're planning on approving all pending members by the end of the week.

Hang in there for a bit longer, your wait is just about over!

Hey everyone. We know you're all antsy to get access to the beta and we apologize that we've had to keep it closed longer than we'd originally anticipated. We wanted to keep our user base at a minimal size initially so that we could support all those users while addressing the "low hanging fruit" that we knew was inevitable. Over the last month we've managed to address some pretty big bugs and accommodate many more phones than we originally could. We've got another one that we discovered with Samsung phones this week that we're resolving. Once our fix has passed QA we'll reopen the Beta.

We'll be approving all the pending requests as soon as we can push that fix. We'll also be sending an email to all pending testers so keep your eye out for that, please!

Also, we've got a new update topic about the beta, so I'm going to close this one and redirect folks there.
