I think its android WiFi. I had to kill my connection to the house ISP this morning as it made my 4 Mbps connection go down to 4 kbps.

Maybe you can explore what other apps have done with the Bluetooth WiFi problem. I use the Fitbit app and it uses both the Bluetooth and WiFi and is causes no such problem on my nexus 5. Its not really a solution but a tip for any other android users with this problem. You can use an app to freeze the automatic app while at home. Then unfreeze it when you get in then car. Its a work around but at least you don't need to uninstall and reinstall the automatic app every day.

Army, my device seems not to be seeing the faulty with tire pressure, TMS or is it not designed to see it? my computerized cars analysis everything and tells me where the problem is but this device, just tells me how much speed am traveling and how many hard breaks I make or how much gas I waste.

We don't have the ability to read any non-generic or proprietary sensors that many cars may have. This FAQ goes into a bit more detail about it.

if it call tell me if the gas cap is closed or not, then it should tell me about the low pressure of my tires. I think the tech department has to go beyond the basics which are taking too long to be realized too. You gave us power to be testers and we are giving you feedbacks. upon this feedbacks, you should be able to engineer something great. its taking too long to come up with 85% perfect or reliable device, why?

We can interpret generic OBD information, but we don't have access to anything else. We've never advertised that we can interpret all the information from your car's computer, only codes related to the check engine light. You may want to check out Amy's response in this thread, it goes into more detail in what we do and do not have access to. http://community.automatic.com/automa...

Nice update. However, the app Force Closes when I click "Clear Engine Light" on my Nexus 5 running 4.4.2... Everything else seems to be working well on this update. I reported it from Android.

Thanks for the hard work, keep it up! I know developing some of this stuff for all these Android devices is somewhat worrisome. Focus on Google Nexus devices though, the best. B-)

Hey Duncan and Amy,

I wanted to return and let you know that this features been working great. On 0.4.1 I did have an issue that after I cleared the CEL, the app does a check to see if it's been cleared successfully. It never got past that part. Even better, it cleared the CEL, but it continued to display that the CEL was on and the error code. I had to Clear all App Data and sign back in to get it to go away. This may have been fixed on 0.4.2, but I don't know because my CEL hasn't reoccurred.

Here's an issue I've noticed. Once you clear am engine light... This screen doesn't ever seem to go away on its own or confirm the light is off, even though it is.

Hi guys.

Just got my Automatic today and have a couple of quick questions about updating...

When I updated, it actually wanted me to go through setup again. Is that normal? Also, if it updates in the middle of a trip, will it end up missing that trip?

Thanks!

Tim

upon actually running the app, it only wanted me to sign in... not do a full setup again.. so that wasnt an actual problem.

Amy and Duncan, thanks for chiming in here. I appreciate the feedback from you guys, especially having a direct line to PM. That's great. Glad I could help you find that bug, as well.

I'm interested to hear what the result will be if you update while driving. I had just received my link and didn't want to end up messing up my longest drive yet. :)

Thanks again,
Tim

You're welcome, Tim. One of the things I love about using the community to help customers is that folks from different departments of the company can chime in and provide their expertise! :)

I'm looking into that app-update question.

So what the engineers & QA folks are saying is that if your app happens to be updating mid-drive, it might result in a split trip, but it should not affect the ability to capture the trip.

I just got the update for my android and noticed that it supported the check engine feature. Unfortunately my check engine light came on today on 2008 honda civic. It appeared that the Automatic android app did not catch this and is still reporting my engine as all ok, despite my car telling me otherwise. Any tips to try to get this to report and show the engine code?

Thanks

Hi Tim--we're looking into this now; it should give you the code description if you are connected to the Link, but as it's the first release of the feature there may be a bug or two.

It had me log out and back in after the update. Did not show trips until I rebooted but then all the trips showed. S3. Still having accurate map issues. Shows trips from point a to point b by different route that I took. Keep up the good work.

Enjoying this update, especially the drive score update.

Still seeing a minor text cropping issue on the Droid Mini

Glad to see new features get rolled in. What purpose does the license plate input serve?
Photo of Amy

Amy

  • 68,970 Points 50k badge 2x thumb
Sometimes you need to know your license plate number and not everyone has theirs memorized. This way it's always easily accessible for you. (One use case: checking into a hotel & parking your car in their lot. They always ask for your license plate info)

Well like storing your license plate and Vin on the app database. There are privacy aware folks out there.

Amy

But your license plate is available on the outside of your car for everyone to see. Not sure how having it available for your own convenience in your app is a privacy risk.
Your VIN is also available for anyone to see who cares to peer through your windshield. It doesn't give us any personally identifiable information about you. It gives us information about your car that helps us provide our service -- like year/make/model confirmation, engine type, country of origin of the car, fuel type, etc.

Noticed a minor bug for Monday travel at the first trip.
- It's your first trip so it'll say "Currently Driving" for last week
- When you press "Prev" then "Next" the "Currently Driving" disappears
or
- When you open your profile then return, "Currently Driving" disappears
- But when you turn your car off and "Processing Trip", the new trip will appear in today's week and sort the weeks correctly.

I am encountering a problem. When I had 0.3.3 the app would tell me when I did a rapid acceleration or pressed hard on the breaks. Now with 0.3.4 I don't see them. I just hear them.

I've been hearing the rapid break as well sometimes it don't seem like I'm stopping that fast as im going from 45 to a stop light within a block so I just figure it is part of the new "hard driving" bug fix for city driving.

Just got the new beta update. Played with the check engine feature and tried to locate repair stations. It missed a LOT of nearby stations. Where does this info come from? Lots of Goodyear stations, pep boys, a Toyota dealership near my house, and many more in between. Just curious.

Identical to 0.4.1 except for:
- Hard events were not previously working--fixed now
- Known issue: MIL is still somewhat buggy; will be releasing a fix in 0.4.3

Set up my Automatic today on my 2006 Acura TL and the Android app on
my Samsung Galaxy S4. Two major issues

1. Now my phone doesnt connect to the hands free link in the car to
make/receive calls. This is a safety issue, I need both to work via
bluetooth

2. My WiFi connection keeps switching on/off regularly. Dont
understand why it has to affect my WiFi

Please fix these two issues, I like it so far but the above two could
be deal breakers.

I am loving the Automatic and the app, works great. A few issues with the beta

1. Once the link stopped talking to the phone and wouldnt record any news trips. I pulled the link out and put it back in and then it started syncing
2. Misses trips some times
3. Shows wrong car location even though it recorded the trip

It's amazing to me to see this product in the press and promoted continually on Facebook, yet there is only a beta for Android. I'm not at all impressed that your company did not have a plan for Android from the beginning, that you somehow believe everyone uses Apple, and that you can't have developed something sooner. We probably could have gotten it developed for you in weeks, but apparently, it takes more than 4 months to develop an Android app?

Certainly not impressed in the slightest and will probably never buy this product.

PETE

im sure since apple uses pretty much the same user interface for all its phones its much easier to develop an app for that vs. the many different user interfaces for android. you have to develop an app for each phone (for the most part) individually while still maintaining the same features throughout.
they are currently accepting anyone who inquires about the android beta. they jut dont want to make it public till pretty much all the bugs are worked out. otherwise people like you would sit there and complain about how poor a product they put out. before you go throwing out negitives about the product why dont you do some reserch and you would see that they are working on getting the android released fully.

im on the beta program and it for the most part works wonderful for me. but its still in beta do to other phones not quite cooperating with the product.
