I have been looking trough some of the supported cars at your "car compatibility" page and i have noticed that some cars are compatible with Automatic but they lack fuel level support. More specifically:
"This car cannot report its fuel level to Automatic. Fuel level features in the Automatic app aren't supported and trip costs will be based on local average gas prices"

What does this mean? And how does it affect the functionality of Automatic. A lot of Automatic's features are based on the fuel level. Does this mean that all of those features doesn't work?

An example is the audi A4, year 2012.

Kind Regards

Good question Mads, and welcome to the community. If your car does not report its fuel level to Automatic, two things are impacted:

1. You will not see the Fuel Level Warning feature within the app.
2. The trip costs feature is still supported, but the way in which the app calculates these costs will be a little different. When your car doesn't report its fuel level, Automatic uses average local gas prices to estimate the value of gas in your tank (as opposed to looking up the price of gas of when and where you fill up). This FAQ explains in further detail how the app determines fuel and trip costs. Without fuel level data, MPGs can still be calculated as well.

I hope this helps explain things a bit more, and let me know if you have any other questions!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Supported -- but without "fuel level." Implications?.

I am considering purchasing the Automatic for my car. The compatibility check on the website states that my car is supported, but that the vehicle cannot report fuel level. It seems like this would be an important metric in many calculations. How does missing this measurement effect general use and Automatic's featureset?

Vehicle: 2011 VW Tiguan

Compatibility Message:
SUPPORTED
Great! Your car is ready to hit the road with Automatic.
 - This car cannot report its fuel level to Automatic. Fuel level features in the Automatic app aren't supported and trip costs will be based on local average gas prices.

Thanks

Is there a way to manually enter the price of fuel you bought through the app during fill up without fuel level reporting. I think it would be a nice feature to be able to manually enter the price you paid and also maybe manually enter in the app when your fuel meter shows says Full - 3/4 - 1/2 - 1/4. based on estimates it could guess when your going to go empty.

Hey, Thomas! Unfortunately, we currently do not have this feature available, but it is one that we very much want to implement in the near future. Thank you so much for the feedback and stay tuned! :)
