I love the ability to export a file of the trips to my computer. Super handy though, would be the formatting of the file name to reflect the filters used to generate the found set of trips that are to be exported and then also append the '.csv' to the end of the file. i.e. I usually run a filter for just the window of time for my expense report/pay period and then export that. It would look like '071215_072415.csv' rather than 'Untitled'

I also think it would be handy to have the ability in the user account to prefer a scheduled email with the monthly or weekly numbers to be sent as a CSV attachment. If we also had the ability to choose how the text data is formatted for dates and times to match whatever form we need. This would preclude needing to manually set the filter, download, rename, append and then format.

Perhaps this is really specific to my own use-case scenario. Currently, I keep a detailed record for both of our cars. I use a custom built spreadsheet in Numbers that I edit every time I get in the car to go anywhere. It keeps my maintenance, fuel logs and driving logs. Doing the work manually produces mostly accurate results but because the odometer in the car doesn't have anything to the right of the decimal, it's error prone +/- .9 mile. I rebuilt the mileage log to allow for data to be dropped in from Automatic's CSV files that I download once a week. This makes things much more accurate but the formatting often throws it off. I have to play with the data in the CSV file after it's been dropped into Numbers to allow it to calculate correctly. The only thing that I end up changing is the formatting of how the dates and times are written. Once that's done, the driving log calculates correctly and my vehicle log dashboard shows the correct mileage.

Thanks for the idea, carguybikeguy. It sounds like you use the data export feature on a regular basis, so this is great feedback! I'll pass this along to the team.

When I export the CSV and open it in notepad, it is a huge mess. Is there a better way to present this report?

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for reaching out.

The formatting may not be correct when exporting to Notepad. We will look into it and see if anything can be done on our end.

For the time being, we recommend using Excel, Google Sheets or Apple Numbers. I've tested all three and can tell you they produce an organized, clean table.
