I want to try this device for my work cars most of them are nissan. (5 cars)
But I want to buy a smarthphone for each car. But I dont want to pay data for this phones.
My question is.. Even if data its OFF my phone will get the data from Automatic?

So then at the end of the day I can recover the information through wifi in my office
And evaluate my workers progress.

Hey Wachu,

Thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like you are looking for a fleet solution? If so, I recommend checking out Automatic Fleet.

To answer your question, having the smartphones in the car without a data plan wouldn't provide much-added functionality. The need for a smartphone in the car with the adapter is for the following reasons:

1. This allows the Automatic to gather better data points by using your phone's GPS.
2. It allows the Automatic adapter to pass the data to Automatic without going over the onboard memory storage (roughly 8 hours).
3. In the case of an accident, it is necessary for a phone to be available to trigger and activate Crash Alert.

All of these functionalities require a cellular/data connection from a connected phone. Otherwise, a phone in the car without cellular/data capabilities won't provide much functionality.
