Hi Michael,

The Pro uses Bluetooth during Setup to connect with your phone, and it will also pair with your phone if it's in the vehicle and Bluetooth is on. However, the Pro adapter only uses 3G to record and upload trip data, it doesn't use your phone's networking capabilities.

I suppose the next logical question is, if it's not using the bluetooth for data, then what will it be using the bluetooth for?

It initially uses Bluetooth so it can register the vehicle since 3G doesn't kick in until after the account is created. After that it uses Bluetooth for Streaming Apps and for the Check Engine Light Feature.

This could be just me but this bluetooth connection did drain my battery more than if it was not connected. Unfortunately I couldn't just unpair because the adapter would keep attempting a bluetooth connection and pop up an annoying pair request on the phone every minute. My only option was to return the adapter and buy another one that I paired with a phone that I don't use while driving.
