Automatic supports regular gasoline cars, (non plug-in) gasoline-hybrid cars, and diesels*. Automatic does not support electric, plug-in hybrids, or natural gas cars. While these cars do often have diagnostic ports that look just like the OBD-II port, electric cars are not required to conform to the multitude of standards upon which we've built our hardware. OBD-ll was designed for emissions and electric cars are zero emissions. The adapter often can't detect "ignition on" in plug-in hybrids and gets false ignition-off/on readings while the car is in motion.

To check whether your specific make and model is supported, please visit our Car Compatibility page.

*Important Note: official diesel support currently requires a Gen 2, Lite, or Pro adapter. Please see this FAQ for more details.
