Feature request: add notes to trips completed.

Often the time, I cannot remember which floor I parked in a parking structure, and I used a Google spreadsheet to keep track. The down side is: IFTTT integration with Google Sheet is not that up-to-date.

It would be great if Automatic could by itself include a "Notes" section for each trip. For example, when popping users with options to tag the trip as "business trip", it would be helpful to include a "Notes" section for each parking event.

Thus, users can tag the trips as they want, and also, for my particular case: to jot down which floor I parked before I forget about it.

All the best,

Thanks for the suggestion, Linfeng. In the new app for Pro & Lite, there is a feature that allows you to take a photo as part of your parked location info (as well as set a timer). This would be helpful for that "which floor did I park on" as you can take a quick snap of that. But the notes feature sounds handy too!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled It would be nice to allow notes to be added to each drive..

Please allow some way of adding notes from the app or website to each drive. This would be helpful when looking for the tracked drive and searching for it.

Thanks for the feedback, Jeff. I've merged your post here to consolidate the feedback about a notes option in the app. :)

I would also like the feature of adding a note to a trip.  Ideally you should be able to add a note in the mobile app AND the dashboard.  The note should be part of the .csv info you can export.  And throw it in the IFTTT as well  =)

Yes, I agree. I was previously using MileIQ for business travel tracking and I enjoyed being able to take a note after a trip right in the app (say to the post office or going to get a contract signed, etc). Being able to tag a trip as business is a great feature but it would be much more useful if it had the ability to add notes to it as well (esp from the app right after a trip so I don't have time to forget). One other neat feature from MileIQ was being able to merge trips into one. Say I had to go get a contract signed and I invoice that to a client, you could combine both the trip there and the trip back so that it is a one-line item rather than having both the trip out and return separately.

Wow - Merging two trips into one would be a huge feature!  This deserves its own thread!  Often I have to manually do this because I stopped for gas/restroom/pulled over to take a phone call/etc.

I'm less concerned with merging the trip there and back as one.  Just merging incidental stops to show A-B instead of A-gas-B.

Thanks for the feedback, Matt. I agree with Greg that the trip-merging idea could be added as a new "Idea" post here.

Greg - I know it's not so relevant to you since you're using Pro & our new app, but our Classic app has that feature. It's called "Brief Stops". You can chime in on this conversation about that. It doesn't work as conveniently as it sounds like the MileIQ version does. You basically say "yes" or "no" to brief stops all the time. If you have it turned on, it would automatically combine any trips with less than 15 minutes between them into one trip.

I'm curious, why did they take that feature away from the new app?

Here's how it looks in MileIQ. Each trip is listed and you swipe to the left for personal and swipe to the right for business and on either you tap the the little button and it allows you to leave a note. That would be a great addition to this functionality.

Sorry, Matt, I don't have an explanation for you beyond what's been explained in this FAQ.
