Got my automatic today and am so excited! One thing I think you should communicate (or at least I haven't seen it) in some way is that Automatic may not install in a manner completely hidden. For my car (2012 Kia Sorento), the connection is behind a panel that once removed, can't be reinstalled with Automatc plugged in. So now the panel is removed and in addition to the nicely designed Automatic, I also see the fuse box and wiring behind the dashboard. Maybe as an additional option (at additional cost) a custom panel with the appropriate cut out for Automatc could be obtained.

That's a great point Chuck. There's no standard location for the OBD port so it ends up in a different place in nearly every car. Sometimes when you plug in the Link, it's completely invisible. But in cases like yours, it's more obtrusive.

I agree it would be helpful to communicate this possibility to people so they can check out the location of their port and know ahead of time what the Link will look like plugged in there.

We really appreciate the feedback and read it all! Please share your experiences with Automatic as much as you like.

Chuck, in many cars the OBDII plug is in a bracket and you just squeeze the sides to unleash it, and then you can put the cover back on with the connector and Automatic safely out of the way.

Dianebrat you are on it! Thank you. Yes, the plug is in a bracket and I can totally unhook it and put the panel back in place. Thank you!!

Thanks for this thread! I just bought a 2014 Sorento and was bummed when I realized the Automatic wouldn't fit behind the panel. Didn't realize I could just unsnap the OBD port. Now the automatic fits nicely behind the panel. :)

In that case Randy, I will make sure it works and the pins are all populated.  That way you may be able to cancel the order if you have to!

I will post you a note as soon as I have finished my testing!

Randy,
Quick update:  I received my extension harness today and immediately installed it in my daughters car (as previously indicated, the door would not close with the adapter installed).

The harness is well constructed and the fit was perfect.  I remotely mounted the adapter with Velco and further used a zip tie to hold it tightly against the a bracket up behind the firewall.

I test drove the car and all is well...the door now closes and again looks good with the OBD cover closed.

As previously indicated - it is critical to tie up the harness and keep it out of the way of any of the pedals.  Furthermore, in order to make sure "Crash Alert" works, make sure the adapter is securely fastened to some solid structure.

Bottom line - it works.  If for some reason your adapter stops working - always check the harness first.

Do let me know how your install works and how it all goes.

Best Regards,
-R

the Fuse box door still wouldn't close wit the ribbon cable, so I had to cut the cover anyway. the Automatic would not have fit even with this trimming so I needed the cable anyway. I'll source a back up cover in the event i sell the car.

It's working fine otherwise.
