To whom it may concern :

I have a few product ideas I'd like to run by. I've considered doing these myself but I've realized Automatic should be the leader in all things automotive.

Two of the things I battle with automotive wise is tracking gas usage and handling car maintenance especially from a historical perspective. In both of these cases they are very manual approaches where I as a user have to type in all the values which is time consuming and error prone. Ultimately I want those values so I can look at historical trends on both gas and miles, especially with having a leases vehicle. I also want the history of past maintenance for knowledge and easier to trade in with awareness.

Context aside I think the big win here from a company perspective is creating the hardware to support that and selling that to gas stations and dealers / auto repair shops. Ideally you would build a Bluetooth driven hardware that would integrate into the pumps. The user would then flash their phone and it'd automatically create the record and also use the OBD port to get the mileage. To get buy in from the gas stations you could sell ads as part of that integration so that after swiping it automatically pops up ads for that gas station. Repair shops could be similar such that after leaving you can swipe you phone to their device to get your information including cost, what was done, maintenance information, and mileage. And again ads could come into play such that when other suggested maintenance is due it would prompt consumer with directions or coupons to those shops.

In the end the consumer has more information available to them in an effortless way and Automatic has another sales channels to the millions of gas stations out there. It also gives Automatic a ton more user data to drive future integrations and products.

Hi, Nicholas. Thanks very much for the suggestions. We've certainly had many internal conversations about integrating maintenance as well as expanding on our already-existing fill-ups feature. In the new product -- Automatic Pro --, we have actually updated the fill-ups feature to allow users to adjust all the data manually if they so choose, which was highly requested here in the community. We'd love to partner with service stations and/or the auto repair / maintenance industry down the road. It takes finding the right partners to help make programs like that scalable. Our new app is designed with this kind of flexibility in mind, however!
