Is there currently, or will there one day, be a way to download your trips as a detailed trip log, or gpx file? To get more timestamp data than your starting point and ending point.

Use IFTTT. It will log all your data, trip by trip to a Google spreadsheet including Google Map links to your departure and destination locations. You can even have it store a png image of your whole trip - although that fills up your Google Drive very quickly.

That's pretty helpful, thanks. What about if you have a trip that starts at point A at 3PM and ends at point B at 530PM, will it save data that is detailed enough to tell me where I was at 4PM?

You don't get waypoints by time. You don't need Automatic for that. There are plenty of GPS apps for your phone that will track your whereabouts over time.

True, I have a few of them and their pretty helpful, but since I already have the Automatic, and it's so extremely accurate (tracks the entire route instead of waypoints at intervals) I was just hoping there was a way to use it in this fashion. Oh well, thanks.

Hey Aregan9,

Thanks for reaching out. I am glad to see that Steve was able to provide you with some assistance during our off hours :D Thanks for that Steve!

As Steve mentioned, Automatic currently does not provide detailed intervals throughout the trip—the most detailed points of the trip you will receive are the start and end point, as well as any brief stops if you have turned that feature on.

This isn't a feature we have really discussed, so it isn't something that is planned to be implemented, but I'll pass it along to our team. Thanks!

Any updates? Is it still not possible to record and export GPX files for trips, even with an Automatic Pro? The encoded polylines in the spreadsheet export are better than nothing, but not a substitute for timestamped trackpoints...

Hi Eric. No update on this. Unfortunately, it's not something we're going to be able to do this year and there's currently no ETA on if/when we'd be able to do this.

Hi Amy, Are you planning to add the feature to record and export GPX or KML files for trips ? It would really be helpful because on a road trip I do not always turn on a GPS logger on my phone, it would be great to be able to use this info to geocode the pictures I take along the way with my DSLR...
I don't see how it is difficult from the technical point of view: for each trip, you already record the track (successions of points lat/long on map), since we can see them on the map view for each trip in the application. why not record with it the date/time? then it would be very simple to provide a way via the API or IFTTT to extract this in any main stream gps track format (KML, GPZ, etc.)? Is there a way to "vote" for a feature ?

I don't have an update on this, Fred. It's not something currently on the roadmap but I've shared your feedback with the Product team.

Oh, as for your voting question - I'll turn this "Question" into an "Idea" and you can click the "VOTE" button at the top.
