This FAQ will provide you with instructions on how to setup your Automatic adapter (2nd generation) with DashCommand (iOS).

  1. First and most importantly, the Automatic iOS app must be installed and connected to your car with the Automatic adapter.

  2. Download and install DashCommand from the App Store.

  3. Open the Automatic app and start your car’s engine, then ensure the Automatic app reads “currently driving...”.

  4. Open DashCommand and tap “settings” in the bottom right of the main menu.

  5. Tap “OBD-II interface type” and select “Automatic Labs” from the list.

  6. An authorization screen will load, prompting you to enter your Automatic login credentials. Once you’ve done so, tap the “authorize app” button

  7. Upon successful authorization, you may be asked to open DashCommand. Tap “Open” and DashCommand will launch.

  8. Tap the “vehicle” button on the main menu, and tap the “+” icon to add your car

  9. Specify your vehicle by filling out year, make, model, and type. Next, tap “done” in the top right-hand corner, and you’ll be prompted to enter your engine’s displacement. You may need to consult your car’s owner manual for this step. After you’ve filled this out, press “save”.

  10. Tap the “i” button next to your car to open the vehicle information screen.

  11. Tap “OBD-II settings” and then tap “OBD-II ResponseTimeout (milliseconds)”.

  12. Make sure to set this value to “1000” and tap “save” in the top right-hand corner.

  13. Go to the vehicle configuration screen for this car, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and tap “Validate PIDs”.

  14. Navigate to the main menu screen and press the “connect” button, which will read “connected” after a successful connection is established. Now DashCommand will work with your Automatic adapter!
