How do I track a car with an automatic pro?

We have two cars, one with an Automatic Gen 2 and another with a new Automatic Pro. Both use the same Automatic account. When I login at dashboard.automatic.com, I can see all the trips, but I don't seem to be able to track the current location of the car with the Pro device while it's driving. My phone has the old Automatic app (because my car has the Gen 2 device).

How do I track the car with the Pro device while it's driving?

Hi MGSmithNJ,

Welcome the Automatic Community! The Web Dashboard will only show you the record of trips that have been completed; it can't be used for real-time tracking. That can only be done through the new Automatic app on your phone. You can install the new Automatic app on your phone and log into your account and you would be able to track the vehicle that way.

I just installed the new Automatic app on my phone and I can't figure out how to locate the vehicle in real time. There is supposed to be real time tracking of the vehicle correct ?

Hi Ginny,

To track the vehicle in real-time, open the Automatic app and tap on the illustration of your vehicle on the first screen. The screen that opens will display the current location.

Thanks for the quick response. I have the old app on "my" phone because "my" car has the Gen 2 device.  Am I able to install the new Automatic Pro app in addition to the old app that's already on my phone without causing any issues?

The new app only works with the newest products - Pro and Lite. The real-time tracking is only available with the Automatic Pro adapter as it's the only one with a 3G cellular connection. This FAQ will help you better understand the differences between the products.

Thanks, but I'm aware of that. I'll start again.
  • We have two cars and two Automatic adapters - one with a Gen 2 and one with a Pro. 
  • My car has the Gen 2 and I have the old App installed on my phone.
  • Our other car has the Pro and the Pro app is installed on another phone (not my phone)
  • Both devices/apps log in with the same Automatic account
  • I want to know how to track the Pro device. The previous response suggested that I need to install the Pro app on my phone. 
  • My question is simple -- can I have both apps on my phone, even though the car I drive only has the Automatic Gen 2 device? Obviously I'd only want to use the Pro app to track the Pro device.

You can certainly have both apps on the same phone, they can even be logged in to the same Automatic account. You just won't be able to have the same car with Automatic and Classic.

i just purchased an Automatic Pro and installed it in my vehicle.  However, I cant find real time location in the app.  It seems to work fine when the vehicle is parked.  I just tap the vehicle icon and the map pops up with the parked location.  But when the car is in motion and I tap the icon it doesnt show me current location.  Any ideas?

I have the same problem .Automatic Pro and installed it in my vehicle.  However, I cant find real time location in the app. I have IPhone device.
