Automatic Gen 1 and 2 for iPhone and Android support multiple user accounts for people who share a car or who share multiple cars.

Every user with a particular car registered to their Automatic account will have their own trips recorded in their app timeline when they drive that car as long as the adapter & their phone connected during that drive and will see where the car is parked no matter who drove it last, again, as long as that trip connected and was logged. It's important to note that if a driver did not connect to Automatic on a particular trip, that data will be stored on the adapter and will sync with whatever account connects next. You can read more about missed trips and how the adapter syncs here and here.

Setting up multiple users

It’s pretty simple. The second (or third, fourth) user creates an Automatic account in the app and performs setup with the car again, just like the first person did. The only difference is that they’ll need to unplug the adapter when asked for the security PIN, then plug it back when instructed by the app. Otherwise, it’s exactly the same process. From then on, Automatic will work the same for each user when they drive alone.

Please note that Automatic Lite & Pro work in a very different way with regard to multiple drivers.

Known issues

  • Currently, the adapter can only be aware of one account at a time. So if multiple users go on a trip together who all have accounts connected to that adapter, the adapter will connect to the first phone it “sees” and the trip will only appear in that person’s timeline. You can make sure the adapter connects to the driver's phone by having other Automatic users turn off Bluetooth when you drive together.
  • If you share an account with another person, have multiple adapters installed in multiple cars, and both of you drive at the same time (in separate cars), you will experience trip capture and connectivity problems. For this reason, we recommend that each driver have his/her own Automatic account if they share more than one car.

Please note that Automatic Lite & Pro work in a very different way with regard to multiple drivers.
