Rules are tied to individual user accounts and not specific vehicles, so if multiple users want to take advantage of the integration, each driver will need to set up the integration and create their own rules. Keep in mind that “rule management” can become very complex when multiple cars/drivers are connected to the same Nest account/thermostat.

Who will receive SMS confirmation texts when there are multiple users sharing the same vehicle?  The integration works when a registered Automatic user sets up Nest integration rules and that same user’s phone is in the car. So if User A & User B share a car and both set up Nest rules, then it will text whichever of them are in the car at that moment when a rule is triggered.  If User A sets up rules but User B does not, the rules will not apply when User B is driving alone.

What happens when multiple users are present in the same car?  As explained in this FAQ, the adapter can currently only be aware of one account at a time. So if multiple users go on a trip together who all have accounts connected to same adapter, the adapter will connect to the first phone it “sees” and his/her integration rules will be triggered. You can make sure the adapter connects to the correct phone/user by having other Automatic users turn off Bluetooth when you drive together.
