more CAN bus utilization

Some vehicles support CAN bus commands. With these said commands you can lock doors/unlock doors, change radio stations, etc.

What I am proposing is a more vehicle specific approach to automatic. When it's plugged in they all use a very similar firmware but you could also download "vehicle support" or add on firmware functions on certain supported cars.

for example in my Scion tC, lots of data is available and events can be recorded and played back by adapters. So when I lock and unlock my doors I could record it and macro it. What I would like is to have automatic lock my doors when I hit 5 miles per hour which makes it way more secure for those who forget to lock their vehicles.

Another thing that is possible would be to read the cars mileage or possibly read which steering wheel control was pressed. So if I wanted to use Apple Music , the adapter would allow me to select music by pressing the change buttons on my wheel. Or maybe long pressing the mode button opened up Siri. The possibility is endless. You could even allow authorized devices to unlock the car with Bluetooth if someone locked their keys inside saving from an expensive lock smith ordeal.

Don't look at this as car specific either. Many cars by the same make would work fine with one set of commands.

Hey Simon,

Thanks for getting in touch and for sharing your idea!

I will be sure to share this with our team. As Automatic continues to grow and we look to implement new features and third party apps, we will definitely explore everything that is possible.

Thanks again for your idea, and please don't hesitate to share anything else that comes to mind :)
