Does Automatic collect the following data:
Vehicle location (latitude and longitude)?
Vehicle speed?
Distance traveled?
Time (of day)?
Duration of a trip?

If the answers are mostly "yes", then it should be possible to insert marks on the route map (at intervals of, say, one minute) of a trip which contain the instantaneous location, time of day and speed of a vehicle at each of those marks. I was hoping Automatic would already have had that implemented, but now it is becoming obvious that it is something I must request in a future release. Let me know if this is something that I can look forward to and give me a reason to purchase additional Automatic devices for my other vehicles.

Hey bawhitaker,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Automatic Community!

While most of this information is indeed collected via Automatic, at this time we do not record long/lat of a trip or vehicle speed. So with that said, this would indeed be a feature request, and for that reason I have changed this from a Question to an Idea.

At this time there are no plans to include speed intervals into the Automatic product, but as we continue to develop and build out new features, we will keep this in mind.

Thanks again!

You say that "we do not record long/lat of a trip or vehicle speed", but when I export a trip, I can see the latitude and longitude at the beginning and the end of the trip which means that it CAN BE recorded. Also, if the position is gathered for two fairly close points (perhaps every mile or every minute), then the distance between those points can be calculated and using the duration of that interval the average speed can be calculated. How else can the device be able to send an alert at 70 mph than by continuously recording the speed? How else can the device be able to show the path of a vehicle on a map than by continuously recording the latitude and longitude?

Hey bawhitaker,

I apologize for the mistake on my part. I mistakingly said we do not record it, while what I was meaning to say is that we do not surface longitude and latitude or the speed of the vehicle at points throughout the trip in the Automatic application. These points are recorded as GPS coordinates, which come from your phone connected to the adapter and/or the GPS chip that is on-board the 2nd generation Automatic adapter. As you saw, this information is included when you export the data.

With regards to the speed of your vehicle at points throughout the trip, we do not currently surface what is recorded of this information at this time. This an idea that has been floated in the community, but unfortunately, it is something we do not plan to add at this time. However, we have heard a few requests for it, so if it is something we can add down the line, we will absolutely consider it.

I hope this helps clear things up, and again I apologize for the mistake in my initial reply.
