Hello. I am new to Automatic and have several question about how best to set things up. My daughter just started driving and I purchased this to track her driving (and habits) and to get an alarm in the event of a collision.

We have two cars and she will likely drive either of them from time to time. I have purchased adapters for each car. I'm less concerned about tracking my own or my wife's driving habits, but there may be something helpful in the data. Here are my questions:

1. My preference would be to have both adapters on my account for simplicity. If I don't put the app on my daughter's phone, what kind of information will I receive when she is driving or afterwards? (Again, I'm interested in collision detection and trip tracking with speed info, etc.)

2. Older articles mentioned a problem with two cars on the same account driving simultaneously. Does this still occur? If so, is there any way that I can reliably be notified of collisions on both cars simultaneously from one account? Would setting up a second account be a workaround for this? If so, will I get alarms even though I'm only logged in to one account at a time?

3. I was a little disappointed at the lack of granularity in the data provided on each trip. Is there a way to get precise speeds at a particular location or where the hard stops occurred? Are there thresholds I can set?

4. I can't find any place to set up geofencing on the device. If I use IFTTT, it appears that I am dependent upon the app installed on my daughter's phone, in which case, it is no better than installing a tracker on her phone directly. Right?

Thanks in advance for answering these questions!

Hi Steve,

First of all, I need to know which adapters you purchased. We only sell Pro & Lite on our site but I know Amazon is still selling Gen 2. You've selected both the Pro & 2nd Gen categories for this post so I'm not sure which one you have. Once you let me know that, I'll be happy to answer your questions as the answers are quite different depending on which adapter you're using.

Amy: I bought the Pro with the gold trim.  I was confused about versions.

Cool. No worries. I had a feeling but thanks for confirming.

Cool. Can you please answer my questions? I'm especially interested in the multiple cars one because I need to set up my wife's car this afternoon. Can I set it up on one account without fear of conflicts in the event that we're both driving at the same time?

I was working on the answers. There was a lot to respond to.

1. Yes, you can set up multiple Automatic Pro adapters on one account. It can be your account and you'll see everything anyone can see in their account in the app. You can set up your phone number as the primary contact for Crash Alert if you want to be contacted first. Or you can set up your daughter's number because the purpose of that primary contact is for the Crash Alert monitoring center to call into the driver to ensure they need help. Yours could then be the first Emergency Contact which means after they contact emergency services, you'd be called next if your daughter either doesn't answer her phone or does and indicates she needs help.

2. There are no issues with multiple cars driving at the same time on the same account with the Pro adapter. In fact, each Pro adapter can only be set up on one account so if you want access to both cars, you have to have them on the same account. If others want access, they just need to have the app on their phone and log into your account.

3. We do not show speed at this time. If you log into the Web Dashboard, you'll see hard events (hard brakes & hard accelerations) and any time spent driving over 70 MPH on each completed trip. You don't have control over these thresholds. The algorithms are built into the product. The app for Pro, however, does not show this data. It's only visible in the Web Dashboard.

4. You can use IFTTT to set up a geofence-based alert between the adapter and your phone. IFTTT alerts don't show up in our app, but push to whatever your recipe uses -- text message, email, etc.

Please note that the Pro will track all driving the car does. There's no way to only have it track certain drivers without unplugging it when you don't want it to be tracking. However, we don't recommend a lot of unplugging / replugging as that opens up the risk of potentially damaging or wearing down your port or adapter.

I recommend browsing through these FAQs to learn more about Pro.
