I just received my Automatic Pro and am deciding how best to proceed.  I am going to use the new Pro adapter in the vehicle that I primarily drive and would like to move my old gen 2 adapter to another vehicle in the family.  I want both vehicles' data to show up on my web dashboard.  Should I have the primary driver of the other vehicle log in with the same account or with their own Automatic account?

Hi Cameron-

If you want to see all trips on your web dashboard that both cars take, you'd need the driver of the other car that has Gen 2 installed to be logged into your account in the original Automatic app on that car. While this scenario does not work properly if both cars are using Gen 2, it should work with one car on Pro and one on Gen 2. Give it a shot and let us know what happens!

I'm back with an update.

I now have both a Gen 2 and Gen 3 connected to the same Automatic account.  I'm happy to see that each vehicle's routes show up correctly and the fuel consumption, distance, etc. seems to be accurate for both vehicles.

Unfortunately, it seems that there is a bug in the Automatic backend that is not properly handling start location.  When both vehicles are driven at the same time, the start location of the Gen 2 trip is set to wherever the Gen 3 vehicle is currently driving.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could look into this.

Thanks for the update and reporting that issue. I'll definitely let the engineers know.

(BTW, the Pro is just the "pro", not "gen 3". :) )

I have a similar but slightly different issue. I upgraded my main car to the automatic pro and I want to install my old generation 2 automatic in my other car. When I tried to do that and set it up with the old automatic app it connects fine via Bluetooth but can't verify the PIN on the account. It says Internet connection failure although I have a Internet connection.

Hi, Adam - Hmmm... ok, there shouldn't be a problem setting a Gen 2 up in a car that previously had a Gen 1 in it. And that Gen 2 was previously set up in a different car with no problem? The most common reason this happens is that there's not a strong enough data connection. Can you please be sure to have wifi turned off on your phone and just use your cellular data connection? Please let me know if that helps.

Amy,
I will try again, but I already did try turning off the wi-fi because I do have a weak wi-fi signal in my driveway. When I was getting the error from the Automatic app I was still able to browse the web, get email, watch youtube, and use other services so I'm pretty sure I had a good connection to the net.

And that was through your cellular signal, Adam?

Yes. As I said, let me try again and I'll report back.
