Dear Automatic Community,

I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the early supporters of Automatic, especially those folks who pre-ordered Automatic back in 2013 when we were just getting started. We had a mission to use the data in our cars to make driving awesome and this was the first step.

A year and a half ago, we launched a 2nd generation car adapter and gallery of car apps that dramatically expanded what you could do with your car’s data. Most of those apps supported the older hardware and we were glad all of our customers could take advantage of them.

Since then, as we’ve matured as a company we’ve been working on a number of products most of you will never see but are critical to creating a sustainable business: specialized car apps, the developer platform, and a number of enterprise products.

We’ve wanted to add requested features to the Automatic app, but as we balance the needs of our customers, partners, and business with the resources of our team, we realized that we needed to build a new product from the ground up: Automatic Pro.

Since Pro launched, we’ve heard from our existing customers that they’re not clear on our plans for the 2nd generation adapter and app. In the interest of being as transparent as possible, we will continue to support these products, for example to make sure they work well on iOS 10 when it comes out next week. But we don’t plan to add new features to these apps.

We’re sorry to disappoint our loyal customers, who reasonably expected more from us. But as a small company it’s what we have to do.

We hope you understand.
