In your privacy policy you state that "We will never sell or share your personally identifiable information, like name, where you drive...".  However later in the same policy you state that " In the event of a corporate sale, merger, reorganization, dissolution or similar event, Personal Data may be part of the transferred assets; in this event, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our website of any change in ownership, as well as any choices you may have regarding your Personal Data".  Are you saying that you might sell the company with it's our data and in that case we MAY not have the ability to delete it or control it's disemmination? Is a corporate transaction an exception to the "never sell or share" promise?

My kids gave me one of these very cool devices for fathers day, and I want to be confident of the privacy of my personally identifiable information (PII).

Official Response

Bruce:  Chuck Wallace here, VP Operations at Automatic.

We would like to thank you and your family for your interest in Automatic, and we look forward to having you as a customer. Thanks for your question regarding Automatic’s Privacy Policy as well.

As you noted, our Policy states that in the event of a corporate transaction including a sale or merger of Automatic, data may be transferred to the acquiring company. This type of event would be an exception to Automatic otherwise not sharing information with third parties.  This is a common exception found in the Policies of many established consumer technology companies.

However, such an event does not create an exception to the ability of our customers to request that their information be deleted by Automatic at any time.  You can make such a request by emailing  And you can do that at any time, including after we’ve provided notice of an impending corporate transaction as per our Policy.  As such, as an Automatic Customer, you will never lose the ability to control your data with Automatic.
