Will Automatic connect to Quickbooks Desktop on a PC? Like via Quickbooks Web Connector? Or is that feature only available to Quickbooks Online users? I am considering buying one for use tracking mileage, but if it doesn't connect easily to Quickbooks Desktop it isn't useful to me.

Hey David,

Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in Automatic!

The QuickBooks integration is very handy for exporting your data from your Automatic account to expense reports.

The way the integration works is you will set up your Automatic account with your QuickBooks account, connecting the two so that Automatic can pass along your data to QuickBooks. When you are ready to export trips from Automatic to QuickBooks, you will go to https://quickbooks.automatic.com/ and select the trips you'd like to move over and add to your expense reporting.

Since the data will then be in your QuickBooks account, you should be able to access it from QuickBooks' desktop features.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the response Jeff. This sounds a lot like what I already read in your knowledge base. Unfortunately this sounds like you are describing the process for connecting to Quickbooks online, though, not Quickbooks Desktop. There's no "quickbooks account" that I log into that would have any access to the Automatic web site or vice versa. All of my Quickbooks data and software is on my PC...my desktop. I use Quickbooks Pro 2015 on my Windows PC. Are you absolutely certain it works with Desktop versions of quickbooks? I would hate to have to return it.

Hey David,

Thanks for following up. I understand what you are saying now, but I do apologize for the confusion on my part.

I think the best action to take here is to follow up with QuickBooks and see how this integration would work with their desktop application. I imagine if you create a QuickBooks online account, there would be some way to get the information compiled with your desktop product. However, I am not entirely sure how their products work with one another.

I apologize we couldn't be of more help here. I hope QuickBooks will be able to provide you with an answer, and please let us know if we can be of any help. You can loop us into any conversations by including support@automatic.com in the emails.

Thanks!

Maybe you can ask your developers which of the two methods you are using to sync the data: Intuit Sync Manager or Web Connector? This really isn't a Quickbooks question. It's which method you are using. Quickbooks will not be able to answer that, but your folks should be able to answer it.

Has this ever been resolved?  Is there a way to import from Automatic into Quickbooks Desktop?

Hi Eric. Your question is separate from the one originally asked here. One of our developers looked into this for you and found that it looks like Quickbooks Desktop has a different API that we're not integrated with. He found this on their developer site: https://developer.intuit.com/docs/0200_quickbooks_desktop/0100_essentials/0000_overview

You can export your trips out of your Automatic Web Dashboard into a CSV file. From there, I imagine you could import them into another app. Here's a FAQ about that.
