Does Automatic REQUIRE Mobile Data and/or GPS to be turned on while driving/capturing? I generally drive through areas where there is no cell phone data (and thus no location data). Do I have to turn on my GPS (battery-burner)?

I'm less concerned about location data than I am with the great features of alerting for Check Engine, and other cool data sensors such as acceleration, mpg, speed, oil level, etc.

Hi Justin,

If you have Location Services off, unfortunately your trips won't show up in the app, so you won't be able to track your MPG, fuel cost, etc.

You'll still be able to use the check engine feature, but mobile data is required to be turned on.

Hi Hans,

It's definitely possible to calculate MPG without GPS, but to provide all the information as part of a trip: MPG, Fuel Cost, Route, Estimated EPA based on city and highway driving, Start and End Locations, Location services has to be turned on.

You're right though, keeping mobile data on isn't required. It just needs to be on for the data to be uploaded to the server when you want to look at your trips.

Hope that information helps!
Jerry
