Save the Current Weather at the Start and End Points of a Trip

It would be awesome if Automatic could save the current weather at the start and end points of a trip.  For me, I'd love to have that information to analyze my drive across town to work...on days when I left 5 minutes later, how long did the trip take, given the weather conditions?

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the idea!  No promises we'll do it, but I am curious how you'd intend to make use of this?  e.g. if you knew it took you 10mins longer when it rains, how would that help you?  It's not a challenge, rather an exploration of true motivations.

Hi Adam! My thinking is that I would be able to use that data to determine a different route to take given the circumstances. So, if it takes me an average of 40 minutes to get to work on rainy days, then perhaps there's another route that moves quicker on those days. At least that's my thinking!

Thanks. For transparency sake this is not likely something we'll do soon (if ever), but I appreciate you taking the time to explain.

What I can say is that I know a good deal of users do want to do all sorts of route optimization.  For much of that desire, apps like Waze have a very good handle on things and it may not be our place to try to compete.  But to the extent that our data is a unique signal, we do want to at the very least make it available to other developers to build out all the use cases that people want.

And we ourselves may get to turn attention to things like this down the road.

I can see a use case for including weather info in License plus. Give new drivers an opportunity to earn badges for driving in the rain, snow, etc. These are very important and valuable skills, and can enable coaches to have meaningful conversations about proactive and reactive SAFE driving maneuvers in those conditions.

Very cool idea.  I'll forward to the head of License+.

I'm interested in using it to track the life of tires and other aftermarket parts in weather extremes. When I notice a part is starting to show damage or wear, it'd be great to understand what role weather (heat and cold) played in the degradation of the part
