Why doesn't the adapter ship with the latest firmware?

Why isn't the firmware on the latest version when purchased from Automatic.com? This seems like it would solve a lot of headaches. I have yet to have one trip logged because the "firmware is updating" which I have no means to even verify. There is no reason why I'm stuck on months old firmware when purchased directly. You should pack them up the day they are ordered, then ship them out. I didn't get mine for a week after ordering so it isn't like you don't have plenty of time.

Thanks for the idea, Raymond. We'd love to ship out adapters with the latest version, but we don’t manufacture hardware "on-demand." The units that we keep in stock at our fulfillment center were actually manufactured several months ago. Since we tend to release firmware updates once or twice a month, the units that ship out will inevitably require a firmware update. Firmware updates are also a critical component to our always-evolving set of features and functionalities. You can read more about how the updates work on this page.

We agree that the firmware update process could be more transparent to our customers, and for this reason, we’re planning to make some changes to how they work. Check out this topic for more details.

I hope this helps to explain things a bit more. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Seth. Sorry about that. And I'm really sorry I didn't see this sooner! There have been so many new posts in our community this week that some of the older posts with new replies have gotten buried. I'm hoping you've managed to get through Setup by now, but if not....

Is this a 2nd Gen adapter? If so, here's a FAQ about setup issues.

If a Gen 1 adapter, see this FAQ.
