Show route on map while car is moving

Hi, I'm not really having trouble, it's just a suggestion. When the car is drivig and enroute, the map only shows the car current location. But it does not show where did it go since it was started. The route is only available after the car is stopped. It would be great if the map shows and updates the route while the car is moving. You can even make it an option that can be turned on or off. Thank you so much.

Thanks for the suggestion, Waleed. We've chatted about this a bit recently and apparently it would be a very expensive piece of functionality to provide as we already pay Google to get the completed routes that we draw based on the GPS points we gather during the drive. To get those routes in real-time we'd have to pay Google a whole lot more.

Hopefully there will be a more affordable way for us to do this at some point down the road, though!

Hi Amy,
Thank you so much for the prompt response. I do a lot of programming professionally and I believe I have an easy and cheap way for you to do this.
You actually don't need google for anything. All you need is a simple paint program to go as an overly on the map that shows where the current car position is while driving. And use the car position as the cursor of the paint pen. I'm quite sure that your brilliant programers can do this.

Hi Waleed - Thanks for the additional thoughts on that. I have a feeling, though, that that solution wouldn't provide a satisfactory result for folks. It helps to understand how we deliver a "route" back to you after a trip to understand why this is trickier than you might think. Here's a FAQ with an explanation of how that's done.

What you'd end up with right now is a route that is driving through buildings and such and not necessarily snapped to actual roads.

Oh, I got what you're talking about. Well, let's hope we can have this in the future.
