I recently had a car accident (I wasn't at fault) but one of the questions the cops ask was "at what speed were you driving at the moment of impact" I was so shaken I could remember at the time though I knew it was less than 20mph but it would have been nice to have the exact speed.

So I guess a nice feature would be to have more detailed info about the trip, top speed, last speed before the car stopped etc.

Thanks for sharing this idea. And so sorry to hear about the wreck. Glad you're ok! Were you using our Crash Alert feature at the time?

Hi Amy, yes I was but my car wasn't going as fast as the one that hit us, so no airbags were deployed or anything (I'm guessing that's why the app didn't notify anyone).

Ah. Yeah, we don't activate Crash Alert based on air bags -- it's based on data reported back from the accelerometer -- however, if the air bags didn't deploy that's a good indication that the event didn't register high enough to activate C.A.

I agree. It would be nice to be able to access the full speed logs.

Is it possible to look up speed at certain times on a trip logged by Automatic?.

Is it possible to review a trip that was logged on automatic to look up speed at certain times?

Hi Chris. This is not currently possible so I merged your question into this Idea post about this topic.

I would LOVE this feature to be able to see a log of all speeds. I just got a BS speeding ticket and this could have proved that I was not speeding by having a readout of all speed data. That would make this product even more valuable! Please implement this!!

Sorry to hear about the speeding ticket, Steve :/  We don't have any current plans to implement this feature, but we understand how this could be extremely useful in fighting speeding tickets. You may be interested in reading this related discussion on adding "black box" functionality.

i am looking forward to full sleep log too, it can help us a lot in case something like this happen, also when we got accused of speeding by law informant for speeding or use it as excuse to stop you for any other reason ( happen to me before but my dask cam help judge clear it).

Thanks for chiming in chealyte. Currently, we don't have plans to implement this feature, but it's good to know that there's a demand for it!

Does the link leave a footprint on the vehicle black box that law enforcement uses to collect data in a fatal crash? ie, can they tell if a link was connected to a vehicle in the past though the vehicles black box?

I believe it does not tell anything much more than your route if you accelerate pass 70mph or hardbreak , fuel cost and score so far that all i can see in mine, i never got check engine light so no idea how detail it show.

Good question, Mike. I spoke with our in-house mechanic regarding this question, and yes some car models do keep track of what is connect to them (which isn't typically something that law enforcement would be interested in). They would be more interested in the vehicle's black box. To the car, Automatic appears as a generic scan tool and does not identify itself as a Link.

Hope this helps!

Is there a way for me to see speed during each driving segment? I want to see points on the map where I was driving and be able to know what the speed was at that time.

Not at this time, Robby. We also don't have any plans to implement a speed logging feature. Here's a link to a related discussion on implementing "black box" functionality.

Thanks for the quick reply! Is there a list somewhere of all the data that the device actually is able to see from the car? Too bad mine can't see the low fuel warning--I need all the help I can get.

No problem! The sensors/PIDs that Automatic reads in order to calculate MPGs varies from vehicle to vehicle. Here's a related discussion on sensors/PIDs and this post explains how we calculate MPGs. Want to know more about the data that's available for you to download via the web dashboard? This FAQ lists all of the data fields included in the data export file (.CSV).

Sorry to hear that your car doesn't support the fuel level warning feature. About half of the cars connected with Automatic don’t report their fuel level through the diagnostic port, so unfortunately, these cars don’t support it. And even if your car has a fuel sensor it may not report that data via the OBD-II port. More info here

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Recording Engine Data -- Phone not in Car.

Car experienced sudden acceleration while trying to park. The car hit a parked vehicle. Query: does this device record any data as to the engine, brakes, accelerator that could be recovered? Phone with the app was not in the car at the time.

Hi Steve. I merged your question into a related discussion on a speed/acceleration log. This isn't a current feature of Automatic, and it's not something we're planning to develop at this time. Your phone also needs to be present in order for Automatic to work properly. See this FAQ for more details.

I'd also like to chime in that seeing speed on the map would be very useful.
