Can I use this to automatically log business miles?

I'm interested in buying Automatic for my friend who needs to log her very inconsistent business miles.

Is this a feature that Automatic provides in their app, or is it something I have to find in a third party app? If so, which one is recommended? It appears there has been discussion about it, but I am still not clear.

I noticed that MileIQ tracks trips automatically. And you can set certain work hours as blocks of time to log for business. Does Automatic do this?

Thanks!

Hi Paul! Thanks for your interest. Automatic can certainly help out in this department, and you have several options available to you. If you're interested in using Automatic to streamline expense reporting, here's a link to our App Gallery that lists all of the applicable business apps you can use with the Automatic adapter, those of which include: ConcurExpensifyFreshBooks, and Tripdots (to name just a few). I recommend reviewing the documentation on each app to see which one best suits your needs.

If you're just interested in a basic trip tagging feature, the standard Automatic app also offers this option. Here's an FAQ that explains how trip tagging works. Please note that we're still working on adding the ability to export trips that you've tagged in the Automatic app. In the near future, you'll have the ability to export this data into a .CSV file using the web dashboard. The Automatic app doesn't have a "block of time" feature, but this might be available in one of the 3rd party apps.

I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the fast response, Tom! I'm glad to see the .csv file export is in the works and I'll be waiting for that. I'm happy to see the other business apps, but I am looking for something that does not require a paid subscription.

No problem, Paul. Some of the 3rd party apps offer subscription-free options. Tripdots, for example, has a free option for up to 50 trips a month. Here's a link to their website.

When the export option for tagged trips is available on the Automatic web dashboard, we'll be sure to update this related discussion.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Can business mileage driven be added to the report?.

New user here. For mileage reimbursement purposes, could business mileage driven be added to the report? And maybe under time range, options for current month and last month?

Hi Nam,

Thanks for reaching out, and welcome to the Automatic Community!

I have merged your question over to this post as it has a lot of great information on utilizing our business tagging feature, as well as using integrations with our apps for expensing trip data.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Feature request: I was really just hoping to do this on the fleet administrator side. If mileage (tagged as business) driven can be shown per user on the report, that would save our company a lot of time and easily justify the expense.

Integrating with other apps is quite cumbersome when we're just talking about a mileage number.
