Trip time - time when car is running verses time when car is actually in gear and not parked

When you first start the car, do not start logging the trip (e.g., start time, etc.) until the car is taken out of park and placed into drive. Otherwise, you end up with situations where if you start the car, sit there for 5 minutes, then put the car in drive and take off, the duration of your trip will be 5 minutes greater than what it really was. In other words, trip time should not include time spent in the car when the car is out of gear and in park.

Maybe offer the option of trip tracking starting/ending either when the car is started up and shut down, or when the car is taken out of gear and placed into park and subsequently placed back into park.

Hi, Steven. Can you explain why you'd want to track it this way? When your engine is idling, fuel is still being used so I'm curious why the trip duration is important?
