Greetings Automatic users! Today, we’re happy to announce that version 2.7 of the Automatic iOS app and version 1.7 of the Android app are now available. We’ve listened to your feedback and have made the app better than ever with this major release. Included are several long-requested features and lots of performance improvements. We hope you enjoy it, and there’s more to come.

  • New Trip Details View: View trip details full screen with interactive, pinch and zoomable maps.
  • Business Trip Tagging: You can now tag trips for business in trip details. Power users have the option to get asked whether to tag after each trip. Tagged trips will be exportable from the web dashboard soon, and are already available in the API.
  • Fuel Grade Picker: You can now set the fuel type that you use for each car to get more accurate cost calculations.
  • Apple Watch Extension (iOS only): View your parked location and tag trips as business directly on your brand new Apple Watch!
  • Firmware upgrade status: You can now see firmware version and upgrade status under the vehicle settings for troubleshooting.
  • Various Improvements: to usability, performance, and stability.

You can download v2.7 of the Automatic app for iOS in the App Store and v1.7 of the Android in the Google Play Store now.

***UPDATE 5/26***
v2.7.2 (iOS) - Setup bug fix

***UPDATE 5/19***

v2.7.1 (iOS) and v1.7.1 (Android) were released 5/18.
This release enables more great new features to support Automatic’s launch as a platform for car apps and some important performance improvements.

iOS:
  • Automatic App Gallery: in-app view of our new gallery for discovering other services that work with your Automatic.

  • Streaming App Support: connectivity foundation for a special class of parter app which streams realtime data directly from your adapter. Use of these apps requires a 2nd generation adapter.

  •  License+ Breakout: License+ has been upgraded to a full-fledged separate app on iOS, so is no longer a built in feature of this app.

  • Various bug fixes and performance improvements.

Android:
  • Automatic App Gallery: in-app view of our new gallery for discovering other services that work with your Automatic.
  • Fixed an issue with missed trips (esp. long commutes) introduced in 1.7

  • Bugfixes

Please note that the update may take a while to propagate to all users, so if you're unable to download it now, the update will appear within the next few hours.

How do I disable the "View trip details full screen"? Is there a different touch point to just view the "preview" that the previous version provided?

The full screen view is very inconvenient when all I want to see is my MPG and time. I've wanted map zooming for a while, but not at the expense of the previous functionality. This makes the app very difficult to use with one hand.

Hi Element101. There isn't a way to disable the new full screen view, but I will pass this feedback along.

Thank you!

I'd be happy just adding MPG and time data right up front.

So far, so good. Was having problems with Automatic connecting to my iPhone. Haven't had any problems since update. Keeping fingers crossed!

Hey Sam. Have you tried resetting your password? You can do so via the web dashboard (https://dashboard.automatic.com/#reset) or within the app itself. On the Android app, just click the "Forgot Password" link.

If you have multiple email addresses, also make sure that you're using the address that's associated with your Automatic account.

Hi Samuel. I'm forking this post into a separate topic so we can keep track of this problem.

A quick update for Android users: v1.7.1 is now available in the Google Play Store so be sure to update when you can. This version fixes an issue with missed trips (esp. long commutes) that was introduced in v1.7.

The FAQ says that the "next version" was going to support multiple users in the car at the same time without dorking with turning off Bluetooth.

Did that happen?

Hi there, Lee. We haven't implemented any changes regarding multiple users in the same car at the same time with this update. I think you're referring to this FAQ, and the language there refers to the next iteration of our multi-user functionality and not the next app update.

Thanks for bring this to our attention. I'll make an edit to that statement to clarify things a bit more.
