Today, we released v2.8 of the iOS app which is a major under-the-hood release that includes many fixes and improvements for connectivity and other known bugs. If you have experienced connection issues with either the 1st* or 2nd generation adapter, please update to this version as soon as possible.

v2.8 is now available in the App Store, but please keep in mind that it may take a while to propagate to all users. If you’re unable to download it now, the update should appear within the next few hours.

Here are the release notes:

• Improved parking location accuracy.
• Fixes for various connectivity issues.
• Improvements and fixes to address background crashes.
• Added an efficiency coaching opt-in tile (alerts).
• Users are now instructed to pair with the adapter via iOS Bluetooth settings during setup.
• Fixed a bug where the setup video would cause the app to crash.
• On the Apple Watch, if a user has no trips, the watch will now display "No Location".
• Appropriate destination labels are now updated after editing within the trip detail view.
• Fixed the parked location for multiple cars on Apple Watch.
• For owners of the 1st generation adapter that switch from iOS to Android, you will not need to re-register the Automatic adapter.

*Note: For owners of the 1st generation adapter: we're getting close to releasing a major firmware update (version 1.0) that will offer further connectivity improvements (when used in conjunction with v2.8 of the iOS app). We'll make another announcement here in the community once this firmware update is available.

This version causes the app to immediately crash as it starts. iOS 7.

Sorry to hear that, Davin. Can you perform a clean install of the app on your phone by deleting and then re-download it from the App Store?

After trying this out, let us know if you're still experiencing a crash upon launching the app.

Same thing. Does not get beyond the initial splash screen.
Rebooted the phone too, and that didn't help.
iPhone 5s.  iOS 7.1.2
Been using Automatic since the very very beginning.

It looks like you discovered a bug, Davin. The good news is that we successfully replicated it on our end, and a fix for this crash will be available in our next release (v2.8.1). This bug only affects users running iOS 7.

Our apologies for the disruption, and thanks for reporting this to us.

Hi Scott. The app crash discussed above only affects folks running iOS 7. If you upgrade to v2.8 and run into any other issues, let us know!

Hi Tom,
Well apparently my iPhone already updated to  v.2.8 from the App Store, though I don't know exactly when the update occurred.  I did send a note yesterday to Automatic Support as I was having a lot of issues with missed or delayed posting of  trips, missing destinations, etc etc. but what isn't clear is when v2.8 was downloaded on to my phone and if this took care of the problem.  My trips all seem to be there as of today, but the app has been a royal pain for the last couple of weeks with all of the re-starts and re-installations that I have had to do because of all of the missed data. Did v2.8 fix this?  Maybe....if I run into similar issues this week, I will let you know.  I am currently using iOS 8.4.

Thanks for the follow up, Scott, and definitely let us know how it goes this week. v2.8 includes several connectivity fixes, and user feedback has been pretty positive thus far. It looks like you're also using a 1st generation adapter, so once we release firmware v1.0 (which is coming soon), you should have an even more reliable experience.

Hi Tom,
Sorry, but I give v2.8 a "C" grade thus far.  Still not consistently connecting, 1-2 days delaying in processing trips, and trips are coming back with "unknown" destinations.  Essentially, the same problems I have been experiencing under previous software release updates.  Maybe it's just me...but perhaps Automatic just doesn't "play nice" with iOS?  Frustrating, to say the least.

Hey there, Scott. I'm sorry for the continued frustration. Firmware 1.0 should further improve things for you, but until it's released, you can email tech support about this at help@automatic.com, and someone will take a closer look at your account.
