Very Impressed and Happy

I first tried the Vyncs OBD GPS tracker and ended up returning it to Amazon after numerous issues with it not performing the functions claimed, slow tracking updates, and horrible customer support.

I then got an AutomaticPro and so far it's worked brilliantly! I used the integration with IFTTT to setup an automatic emailed summary report after each trip. It works brilliantly.

I've only identified a few issues (below).

1. It doesn't come with any instructions whatsoever. You just have to load the smartphone app and figure it out.

2. It doesn't seem to track "live" on the smartphone as I would have hoped. You have to go back to the main page and refresh for an updated track.

3. It doesn't record location when the car is not running. Thus it can't detect your car being towed.

4. To be honest, the accident detection and assistance if fundamentally flawed in that one would expect that the battery power would be cut in a non-trivial accident. This would prevent the AutomaticPro from detecting the accident.

On the positive side, I have found too many pros to list here. I'm impressed with the product.

Hi Brian,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for the feedback! I will respond to your points in order:

1. Although there aren't extensive instructions in the box, there is a card that says "download the app". Once you have done so and created an Automatic account, all of the instructions are from the app itself.

2. Live tracking is available in the Automatic app on your smartphone. All you have to do is tap on the illustration of your vehicle on the first page of the app when you open it and log in. If you aren't seeing live tracking, please email for assistance.

3. The Automatic Pro adapter is only powered on when it is plugged in and the vehicle is turned on. It doesn't have its own power supply so it can't update location on its own, unfortunately.

4. As a part of the Crash Alert Team, this is not true. The vast majority of accidents that warrant a response from Emergency Services do not have their power cut.

On a side note, you mentioned in your Amazon review that you will use a splitter, which is not supported. You can read more about that here:

Thank you for your reply.  I will investigate the live tracking further.  However, I have not been able to get it to work.  At least in my case, using a splitter is working for me.  I'm sorry, but I don't consider a tiny card that has 'Download the App" written on it as any form of instructions for new owners.

Finally, this morning I discovered another feature that is a possible deal breaker for me.  I installed the Automatic app on my wife's smartphone also.  However, whenever I change notification settings on her phone, it also changes the settings on my phone.  She it not interested in getting the detailed notifications (start, stop, etc) that I request.  I ended up having to completely uninstall the app from her phone.  Now she doesn't have a way to locate me if I have a medical emergency.  The ability for her to find me was a major reason I am seeking a GPS tracking solution.  I'm thinking that I may end up buying a second Automatic Pro and install it using a splitter.  Perhaps on the second one, I can disable the notifications and keep them enabled on the first adapter.
