Automatic Pro is our new 3G connected hardware.

The Automatic Pro adapter adds a cellular modem alongside some other more minor performance upgrades. This means that users of Automatic Pro will have an always-on connection and can know what’s happening with their car in real time even when their phone is not present or Bluetooth paired.

The Automatic Pro adapter only works with  the new Automatic app. The new app only works with the Automatic Pro and Lite adapters. This app is a ground up redesign that introduces a new direction for Automatic where features and functionality are primarily designed with the car at the center, rather than the user. This means that all logs and feedback are about the totality of usage that the car has, not necessarily just your driving.

The Gen2 adapter is not compatible with the new Automatic app. Many of the new features are related to the cellular connection, as are some of the carried-over features that, in a Gen 2 adapter, work relying on Bluetooth such as Crash Alert, parking location, and other real-time event based activity.

Automatic Pro does not currently include all the same features as Automatic Gen 2, such as Fuel Level, Brief Stops, Custom location names, Android Do Not Disturb, Audio Feedback, and Drive Score. We may bring some of these features to Automatic Pro in some form but are excited for many more new features to come that are now possible. (UPDATE: Trip Tagging was added to the new app on Oct 4, 2016. Customized car naming was added to the new app March 7, 2017).

Physically, the Automatic Pro adapter is white and gold while Gen 2 and Gen 1 adapters are white and silver.
