A single Automatic adapter works with every car we support. If you want to switch cars after you receive your adapter, that's fine as long as you continue to use it in a compatible car. You can check car compatibility here. Keep in mind that every time you switch an adapter into a different car -- or back and forth between cars -- you'll have to reconnect your adapter.

IMPORTANT: If you delete a car from the Classic app -- or have a car deleted from the new app by Tech Support -- keep in mind that all of the historical data from that car will disappear from your app and the Web Dashboard. The only way to retrieve that data is to run Setup again on that same car.

If you switch phones and are using the Classic app (with the Gen 1 or 2 adapter), you'll also need to reconnect your adapter by going through "setup" again. First, be sure you're using a supported phone and OS. If you're using the Pro or Lite adapter and you switch phones, you just need to ensure it's a supported phone, download the Automatic app and login with your same account.

To reconnect (re-setup) the adapter:

In the app for Pro & Lite: tap "ADD A VEHICLE" from the main menu

In the Classic app on iOS:  tap “Replace/Reconnect Adapter” in the Settings menu

In the Classic app on Android: tap "Reconnect car" on the car profile page in Settings.
