Available for both iOS and Android, Crash Alert can detect many types of serious crashes using the adapter's built-in accelerometer. In the event that you’re in a serious crash, a monitoring center will contact emergency services and get you help when you may not be able. For more information on the Crash Alert feature and the requirements for proper functionality, please visit this page. Also, please be aware that for Crash Alert to work on Android with the Gen 1 or 2 adapter, we recommend leaving the system tray notification toggled on and you need to be on at least the 1.0 version of our Android app. (We recommend you always keep the app up to date).

How to set up Crash Alert on Gen 1 / Gen 2 original app (See how it works for all adapters below)

Select "Crash Alert" on the User Settings screen:

Toggle it on:

Verify your phone number. This is how a Monitoring Center agent will contact you in the event of a crash:

Add up to three emergency contacts from your "Contacts" on your phone.

If you would like to change one of your emergency contacts, please see this FAQ.

What happens when Crash Alert is triggered - Pro adapter

Because Crash Alert in Pro relies on the 3G connection of the adapter, the account holder's phone does not need to be in the car. No matter who is driving the car, if Crash Alert is triggered in the adapter, the Monitoring Center will be notified. They will then call the account holder's phone to see if help is needed. If the call goes unanswered or the account holder is not in the car and doesn't know, help will be sent automatically. The Emergency Contacts will then be notified unless the account holder tells the Monitoring Center that this is unnecessary. The number that you will receive a call from is 866-856-6797 so please add this to your phone's contacts/address book. Please note that this number is to be used in the event of a car crash emergency only. Any calls to this number for any other purpose will cause a distraction to the dedicated resources attending to real emergencies and is prohibited. We’re sharing this number with you to add to your Contacts so that in the unlikely event you’re involved in a crash with your car you’ll recognize the number when they call you.

What happens when Crash Alert is triggered - Gen 1 & Gen 2 adapters

When an Automatic user is in an accident, the adapter will beep three times and a voice recording will announce that it has detected a crash. The voice recording will come from the phone regardless of whether or not it is set to silent. The app will display the following screen and the user will have 45 seconds to cancel the alert:

If the user does not cancel the alert, our Monitoring Center calls them on their mobile phone and asks if they’re ok, if they'd like emergency assistance, if they'd like Automatic to contact their listed Emergency Contacts, and if they'd like the agent in the Center to stay on the phone with the user in the accident until emergency services personnel arrive.

The Monitoring Center then takes the required action, calling the appropriate emergency services, and the user's emergency contacts. If the user in the accident does not answer the phone when the Monitoring Center calls, they take the same actions. If the user in the crash answers the phone and does not need help, they can indicate that to the Monitoring Center agent and the case is canceled.
