Thanks for your question Bob.

Chuck Wallace here -- I run Operations for Automatic.

First of all, we have a great Monitoring Center, with world class technology and people who do a great job helping Automatic users and their friends and family when users experience the unfortunate event of an automobile accident. So thanks for letting me take a moment to brag a little about our team.

When an Automatic user is in an accident, our Monitoring Center calls them on their mobile phone and asks if they are ok, if they'd like emergency assistance, if they'd like Automatic to to contact their friends and family listed as their Emergency Contacts, and if they'd like the person in the Center to stay on the phone with the user in the accident until emergency services personnel arrive.

The Monitoring Center then takes the required action, calling the appropriate emergency services, and the user's emergency contacts.

Again, thanks for your question Bob

Hi Chuck, Thank you for your answer. This is far more than I expected and is a great service I didn't even know I'd be receiving with Automatic. Thanks again!

Hello, as a follow up to this, how does te call from the monitoring center come in? Is it a normal call or via the app, alerting the user to such? I ask, because if I were just in an accident and able to take a call within the minutes afterward, I'd be less inclined to take a call from a number not known to me. Is it simpler to advise us what number the call will come from, so we may add it to the address book?

Hi Keithpilot -

Thanks for your message, and your interest in crash alert. The process for how crash alert works is as follows:

  1. When Automatic senses that you've been involved in a crash/collision, we send you a notification via our app, which you can dismiss in case of false alarm.
  2. If you do not dismiss the alert, the crash alert call center will call you to confirm whether you've been involved in an accident.
  3. If you don't pick up this call, the crash alert will contact Emergency Services & then go down the list of emergency contacts you've elected, and notify them.
I'll have to get back to you regarding your question about the call center's phone number. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Bjorg and Keithpilot. Our apologies for the late reply. The number that the Monitoring Center calls from is 866-856-6797. Please see this related discussion for more details.

We also updated our Crash Alert FAQ to include this information.
