License+ is intended to be an alternative to real time monitoring for teen drivers, which we believe is a well-intentioned, but a fundamentally flawed approach to new driver safety. License+ is designed to do the following:

  1. Foster a trusting and collaborative relationship between parents and teens. It’s hard for trust to take hold when one party feels like they are being spied on.

  2. Protect the privacy of teens, as we do with all our users. In other areas of teens’ online lives, teens are advised to protect their privacy. Many real-time monitoring gives that privacy away.

  3. Avoid overwhelming the parent with too much data - which they often never use. License+ focuses on coaching and provides a level of data effective for feedback.

  4. Make learning to drive engaging for teens too. Real-time monitoring is not engaging but stressful. There’s nothing stopping teens from disconnecting any device, but with License+, we think we’ve made safe driving fun and engaging for both parents and teens.
