I got through setup just fine but my first several drives have been kind of spotty.

NOTE: This FAQ pertains to the 1st & 2nd generation Automatic adapters only.

Depending on the version of the Automatic adapter you are using, your initial setup process and firmware update will differ.

If you’re using a 2nd generation Automatic adapter, your adapter will perform an initial firmware update during setup. Please see this FAQ for more details on the setup process for the 2nd generation adapter.

If you’re using a 1st generation Automatic adapter, it's common for firmware to be updating soon after you complete setup. Whether or not your adapter will need to update its firmware depends on the timing of the most recent firmware update and when your adapter was manufactured. If there's been a firmware update that isn't already pushed to your adapter, it will update over the next cumulative 30-45 minutes (if currently on v0.8.52 or earlier) or 2-3 minutes (if currently on v0.9.7 or above) of driving.

You may experience some disruption in capturing trips during this time, and this is particularly likely if you take several short drives first. In most cases, the trips from those drives will get pushed back to your app at some point soon after.

To learn more about firmware updates, see this topic.
