If you own a 1st generation adapter:
Switching platforms is not officially supported at the moment for the 1st generation adapter. The reason why you'll run into problems is because the firmware versions are different for the iOS and Android apps, so if your adapter updates to the latest iOS firmware, the Android user who also connects to the adapter will experience performance problems. We're working to address this issue, and in the future, we plan to unify the firmware versions between both versions of the app.

However, there are steps you can take to get up and running if you're permanently switching to a new phone platform:
  • When switching from iOS to Android, please email our tech support team at help@automatic.com for further assistance. We ask that you write in because your adapter will have firmware version (0.9.153), and this version of firmware is not fully compatible with Android. As a result, you will likely experience connectivity issues when using the Android app.
  • When switching from Android to iOS, download the iOS app from the App Store and log into your account.

If you own a 2nd generation adapter and are switching phone platforms or if you would like to use Automatic on two different phone platforms:
  • When switching from iOS to Android, please download the Android app from the Google Play Store, log in to your account, and then reconnect your adapter. You can begin this process by navigating to Settings → Your Vehicle's Profile within the app. Once there, tap on the "Reconnect car..." link.
  • When switching from Android to iOS, download the iOS app from the App Store and log into your account. Next, reconnect your adapter. To reconnect, tap on the “Replace/Reconnect Adapter” link in the Settings menu of the app.

If you run into any issues along the way, please send our tech support team a message at help@automatic.com.
