Will the adapter ever be able to work with iOS and Android devices at the same time?

My wife has an iPhone and I have a One. I really like what Automatic can do, but not as much as we like our phones. Will there be a day when I could go for a drive in the morning, my wife could go for a drive in the afternoon, and we would each be recognized when we entered the car and have full usability? I get that the adapter can only link to one phone at a time, but will it ever be able to go from one phone with one OS to another phone with a different OS without issue?

Hi there, Robin. Yes! We do plan to offer cross-platform support, and this will happen when the firmware versions for the iOS and Android apps come to parity. Right now, the firmware versions differ between two apps, and if both you and your wife were connect to the adapter, you would experience some performance/connectivity problems. This is because the adapter would automatically update its firmware to version (0.9.153) which isn't fully compatible with Android.

At this time, we don't have an ETA for this unified version of firmware, but it's in the works. Once it's available, we'll be sure to update this topic and make a formal announcement.

That's great to hear.
Are there updates I can sign up for?

There isn't a mailing list dedicated just to firmware update news, but if you're signed up for email notifications on this topic, you'll receive an email when someone else posts here. This will also include the update that we will post when cross-platform support is available.

Have to agree. I saw the other article about ensuring multiple drivers are on the same phone platform. I can tell you right now that that will never happen. Glad you've realized that and I'm looking forward to the day when Automatic will be able to work when either my wife or I go for a drive. I assume you'll also make it possible for us to notify Automatic which of us is driving when we both happen to be in the car with our phones turned on. Disabling Bluetooth on either phone is not feasible, since we both use Bluetooth headsets.

Thanks for chiming in Alan, and welcome to the community. We're still working on a solution for users who regularly drive together in the same vehicle. We don't have an ETA right now, but once some progress is made, we'll be sure update the related discussions here in the community. The reason why it's still an outstanding issue is that other features and development have taken priority.
