It would be great to have a Windows Universal App for Automatic! Connect to the adapter with my phone and analyze the data on my computer (or even Xbox). Any plans for a UWP App?

Hi Joe -

Thanks for sharing your idea with us, and welcome to the Automatic community! At this time we don't have plans to bring Automatic to the Windows platform, however I'll be sure to share your idea with our team to be considered in the future.

In the meantime, should you have any additional questions, please let us know, we're always happy to help. :)

please migrate to MS tools as your dev environment to consolidate the code base for all major platforms.  Including bringing your app to millions of windows PCs (universal apps = PCs, tablets & phones)

This seems like a minor thing - no need for a full-blown mobile application - just a simple connection so that we can take advantage of the web site information. I'm only interested in the trip data and maps, and don't have any use for the mobile phone features that you make for Android and iOS..

A universal app for the Microsoft platform would be nice but I would settle with just having it on Windows 10 Mobile at the very least. I am not a fan of Android or iOS.

I'd be happy to build it, if I can get your blessing to re-use your app layout, styling, animations etc. The app isn't really a big deal to build. I get Windows Phone is dead, but Windows is far from it. I'd love to have this app on my desktop. The webapp just doesn't cut it, doesn't provide notifications etc etc.

Hi Morton,
I upvote you!
I would also agree with prior posters and yourself, I would love to use Automatic on my PC and W10 Tablet -- Plus my w10 phone.  My interests don't 'require' a mobile app but using the Automatic web is a bit of a pain.

The main problem to me is that you can't setup and configure without an I or A device, that pretty much. sucks.

Key features for me are crash reporting, location and diagnostic reporting.

Hi Morton and KenP,

Unfortunately we do not have plans to create a Windows app at this time.

Hi Derrick,

I fully understand the need to prioritize your efforts.  I do have 2 requests which I hope are consistent with your strategic road map:
1) keep up the good work advancing your product, I quite like it!
2) support (or at least don't stand in the way) of smaller third party efforts, especially when using your APIs and open protocols like REST or ODATA (think Alexa vs Siri) like Morten's.

All the best!
Ken

Had a little fun tonight hacking a little app up in Windows 10 using the REST API. The app is actually pretty simple to duplicate.

And just for kicks, I added the fuel gauge, since everyone seems to be wanting that :)

Hey .Morten,  Any re-thoughts about releasing your app?  I see Derek S. is waiting for your submission :)

Hi Morten,
Your hack looks anything but!  Windows 10 (especially Mobile) doesn't get the love the other platforms get which makes for a nice developer opportunity:)

I am guessing the functionality offered on the left is not operational in your prototype; however, it looks to me that you have the beginnings of a successful 3rd party app.  I would certainly pay a few dollars for it.  My biggest gripe is the inability to setup the adapter without borrowing someone's i/a-Phone.

Good luck hacking! :)

Cheers - Ken

@KenP Not sure why you think they aren't functional :)

It works on Windows 10 Mobile too:

Hi Morten--

Gee not sure what to say:)  You're that guy!

After looking about a bit I realize I was unjust in my response to Derrick, Automatic has dedicated significant resources to their 3rd party developers with a well established path to follow.

I wish you good fortune in moving your app out into the world.  there may not be a huge windows (mobile!) demand but as the sole app in the store you may be well positioned to make a few bucks, if you are so inclined.

If you are looking for a beta tester let me know :)

All the best - Ken

@ Derrick S., Can automatic give dotMorten permission to release his app to the community?

Hi David,

He would need to contact us directly @ legal@automatic.com to receive permission, and I don't know that he has done so.

Hi Derrick,
Any chance Automatic could review his original request, especially in light of increasing numbers of Windows 10 PCs/tablets and a few remaining winphones:), and see if the environment has evolved so that he could release his app?
Even if it is as a "hey this is my personal app, hope you can enjoy it" offering?

Personally I'd buy it or donate because i am a Windows only shop and my old in-the-junk-drawer iPhone won't run your app.

Best,
Ken

Ps i own 2 pros and would like to buy 3 more but ...

You seem to be assuming I also have the time to finish up, continuously update and support this app :-) TBH I'm guessing I'd have very few people who would actually buy this app, and to justify so few users would make this app cost more than I'm guessing those few people would pay. Especially considering most of those people would actually have an iPhone of Android phone with a free app.
